Perception and presence go hand-in-hand. They aid each other. They influence me as I step within a few feet of him. Calmly, and quietly together, we create a space that delights, we notice details, exchange feelings and ideas, wishes and opinions. Breath. This is true nutrition for me. I see, also for him.

Spring has arrived very early this year. The owls, eagles, ravens, our chickens, all are active. The first trees are budding out already. The atmosphere is carrying pollen and fresh, new scents of growing life, everywhere!

All week I have been filled with writing topics while I work at my day job and while settling into the new space that I just moved to last weekend. But tonight, Duncan has given me the inspiration to simply celebrate his presence. His rain-soaked coat, his way of being with me. When it comes to the purpose of anything I write here, these nuanced moments are the poetry of being together and all that I hope to ever share.

The stuff of daily life brings the profound, simple joy of knowing each other so well, which comes from the repetition of quiet, calm moments together over days, months, years. This is not something that can be had through electronic means, or in an instant. As in any relationship, it comes through time and presence. Analogue.

I wish for there to be a drive in society to choose something like what I am describing here, in the life being lived. It’s tactile, observant, in-person. Sharing time with another being that is meaningful with a calmness that has no need for being guarded. Hearts are simply resting in the space, together.
